The vegan cuisine at Bodai Restaurant upholds the health-conscious philosophy of "following nature's way, seasoning with plants, and embracing nature food."
Located at 135 E 50th St, New York, NY 10022, BODAI 菩提 Vegan operates as a vegetarian serving New York in New York. Because this group is broad, judging a listing on freshness, turnover and how consistent recent reviews are tends to work better than judging by decor or price range alone. Most kitchens in New York will adjust a dish for common dietary needs like gluten-free or vegetarian if you ask when ordering. Hours vary widely: diners and fast-food chains often stay open late or around the clock, while bakeries and cafes tend to open early and close mid-afternoon. Catering and food delivery businesses in New York usually require advance notice, from a day for a small order up to a week or more for a large event, so it is worth contacting them early.
The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 5–11 pm. It is closed on Monday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach BODAI 菩提 Vegan at (917) 463-7997; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is bodainyc.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 46 reviews, which is a strong result for a vegetarian in New York and suggests consistent service.
New York is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and New York follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

This restaurant and tasting menu are a hidden gem that deserve more recognition! Meticulously designed dishes that showcases classic Chinese flavors (while all vegan!) and unique ingredients, beautiful space that transports you to another time, and our wonderful server was so knowledgeable and kind in taking us through the experience. Highly recommend and look forward to returning for their seasonally rotating menu!

As good as any Michelin restaurant- this place deserves more of a following!! Every course was delicious and it was a nice change to have a tasting menu that didn’t take 3 hours. Each course was brought out right after we finished the previous, which I really appreciated. Beautiful interior of the restaurant too. Great night out!

Looking for a unique dinner in Midtown? Bodai is a hidden oasis transporting you straight to China. Their 9 course tasting menu offers a unique dining experience which reminded me of some restaurants I’ve been to in China (which were much bigger, however). If you love mushrooms, you’re in for a treat - most courses feature them, which I loved! The courses have unique names as well and my favorite was “Bodhi Buddha jumps over the wall”, a velvety soup with various mushrooms and an incredibly deep flavor. The restaurant is very small and intimate. Presentation was absolutely stunning, each dish served on a plate/bowl more beautiful than the previous one. You have to pay when you reserve on Tock and it’s 99$ per person, which is absolutely fair for this experience. There’s one aspect I did not like: the crazy high drink prices. A glass of wine or a beer is 24$, so we both stuck with water (especially given that the options weren’t that interesting to me). Teas were also very expensive (and I prefer not to drink caffeine at night). Overall, I’d definitely recommend you check it out - and maybe get a drink at the Waldorf before or after to make a night out of it (and yes, that m

Check out my I G lawyer.traveler.dreamer for more footage of our experience. Bodai in Midtown Manhattan offers a rare and memorable dining experience. The restaurant blends Buddhist philosophy with royal vegetarian cuisine inspired by the Qing Palace. It was my first time trying a full vegetarian tasting menu, and I was impressed by how flavorful and creative every dish was. The mushroom dishes stood out the most, especially the Stichotas japonicus with cucumber sauce, the pan-seared boletus with green millet, and the Nepal mushroom quinoa with pepper sauce. Each course felt balanced and intentional—low oil, low sugar, and focused on natural taste. Even traditional dishes like Buddha Jumps Over the Wall and zhajiang noodles were reimagined beautifully. The dessert, called “Nectar of the Core,” was light and refreshing. Dining at Bodai feels like a calm, thoughtful journey through color, texture, and flavor. If you’re looking for an elevated vegetarian meal in NYC, this is worth a visit.
